Holiday Lights at the Beach
Virginia Beach Boardwalk
The Holiday Lights at the Beach boardwalk lights display has been a holiday tradition in Virginia Beach for over 20 years. However, hash weather conditions at the beach have worn out some of the displays, necessitating costly repairs for which funding is not available. Rather than cancel the 2017 Boardwalk Lights display, Virgina Beach City Council appproved an abreviated 14 block display.
Smaller "Holiday Lights Merry Mile" Display for 2017
The 2017 light display will span 14 blocks, versus the 30 block display of previous years. But the display still promises to be bright and festive. Over 50 of the most popular light displays have been hand-picked for inclusion in this year's Merry Mile.
Visitors can view the light displays by driving along a special designated route along the boardwalk. There are animated light displays along on either side of the boardwalk, with some arching over the boardwalk path.
We don't know yet which displays have been selected for the 2017 show, but past displays have included jumping dolphins, sailboats gently rocking in the wind, surfing Santa, and more.
Good news for 2017 is, with the smaller display comes a smaller admission price. The per vehicle entry fee has dropped from $15 in 2017 to just $5 per vehicle on the weekend for the 2017 holiday season, and $4 per vehicle Monday - Thursday.
Pricing for 2017: $5 per vehicle Friday - Sunday and holidays. $4 per vehicle Monday - Thursday. $2 Military Mondays. $25 for motocoaches.
